Hila Kulik (ISR) & Jan Luley

KEY CONVERSATIONS

The “Key Conversations” concert with Hila Kulik (Israel) and Jan Luley (Germany) promises an extraordinary musical experience. The two internationally renowned pianists, who come from different musical and cultural backgrounds, enter into a unique dialog on two grand pianos.

With their program, they dig deep into the history of jazz, playing world-famous jazz classics by great masters such as Duke Ellington and Irving Berlin - the latter was himself of Jewish origin - and juxtapose these with their own compositions and traditional Jewish and German folk songs in specially arranged versions. A broad spectrum of musical styles that reflects the cultural diversity that the two artists bring to the stage. Their virtuoso playing and charming presentation create an intense dialog that deals not only with musical but also deeply human themes such as peace, freedom and international understanding. This concert succeeds not only in demonstrating musical diversity, but also in building bridges between cultures and people - a particularly powerful expression of the universal language of music.

Scott Joplin and the "rag" style, Jelly Roll Morton, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Oscar Peterson, Thelonious  Monk, Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea – each one and their particular piano style - but they all grew up on the sound of the piano in the early days of jazz in New Orleans. Highly respected local pianist in the world of jazz, Hila Kulik, will star alongside Jan Luley, a New Orleans native and world expert on the rich music of the New Orleans piano. Jan Luley, whom the press call "the magician of the keys" and "the titan of the grand piano keys", is one of the most versatile pianists of our time. His love for Creole music and the different styles of playing the piano from New Orleans is both contagious and captivating and fills his audiences with positive energy. In each of his multi-faceted concerts he demonstrates how great art can also be just plain fun!  His piano playing is full of energy, enigmatic wit, and full of deep emotions. To date, Jan Luley has played over 2,500 concerts in 18 countries around the world, and has released about 20 albums, most of them on his label Luleymusic Records. In 2011 he received a certificate from Mitchell Landrieu, the Mayor of New Orleans at that time, in recognition of his contribution to the musical tradition and musicians in New Orleans.
